Ethics in language testing – International practices and implications for Vietnam
Xuan Minh Ngo
Recent time has witnessed a growing interest in the role of ethics in language testing with two special issues of Language Testing in 1997, Language Assessment Quarterly in 2004, the publication of ILTA Code of Ethics (2000) and two book-length treatments by Shohamy (2001) and McNamara and Roever (2006). However, this issue is still relatively underexplored in Vietnam despite the boom of the ELT industry and the frequent use of language tests in the country. To bridge this critical gap, the presentation will first introduce a working definition of ethics in language testing and then argue why this issue should be regarded as a major item on every language testing agenda. This will be followed by a critical review of practical approaches to ensuring ethical language testing as adopted by prestigious examination boards. Finally, the presentation will examine how such international practices fit in the Vietnamese context, and provide some implications for various stakeholders including but not limited to classroom teachers, teacher trainers, and policy makers.

Innovations in medical education in Vietnam
Linh Lê
Medical education reforms are a crucial component to ensuring healthcare systems can meet current and future population needs. In 2010, a Lancet commission called for ‘a new century of transformative health professional education’, with a particular focus on the needs of low-income and-middle-income countries (LMICs), such as Vietnam. This requires policymakers and educational leaders to find and apply novel and innovative approaches to the design and delivery of medical education. This review describes the current state of physician training in Vietnam and how innovations in medical education curriculum, pedagogy and technology are helping to transform medical education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. It also examines enabling factors, including novel partnerships and new education policies which catalysed and sustained these innovations. Our review focused on the experience of five public universities of medicine and pharmacy currently undergoing medical education reform...
Enhancing Students of Teacher Training College’s Teaching Skills in Real Teaching Program by Using Peer Teaching
Asmuni Asmuni
Abstract: This study aims to examines result of peer teaching in enhancing the students’ teaching skills components in the real teaching practice program. The positive hypothesis of this study is that peer teaching is effective in preparing the students’ teaching skills on their real teaching program. The study also examines social and personality skills of the student teacher in the real teaching practice program. This study is experimental. The sample of this study is 40 students who was divided into four groups and placed in four different schools. Two groups of peer teaching consist of 20 student teacher are taken as the experiment group, while the control group is the two groups of micro teaching consist of 20 practitioner students. The data is the teaching performance of the practitioner student score given by teacher as the supervisor and analyzed by using independent-sample t-test of SPPSS 16.0 for windows. The result of the study shows that there is significant value between the experimental group and the control group which shown by the independent sample test, it is 7,527 > 0.05. The ttest value is bigger than t-table, means that there is significance in the use of peer teaching technique toward practitioner student’s teaching skills. The significance t-test score of the practitioner students between peer teaching groups and micro teaching groups shows that the positive hypothesis is received. It also shows that peer teaching is effective in preparing the students of teacher training college in performing their teaching skills on real teaching program. Utilizing STEM-based practices to enhance mathematics teaching in Vietnam: Developing students' real-world problem solving and 21st century skills
Pham Sy Nam
In Vietnam, STEM-based teaching approaches have been recommended for schools since 2018 with the integration of multiple related courses in schools. Teachers' perspectives on integrated STEM education, and how to design a STEM lesson that supports students’ learning are critical for ensuring that an integrated STEM curriculum is implemented successfully. This paper aims to describe a study applied successfully to STEM education in teaching Mathematics, in particular “Trigonometry ratio of an acute angle” in Vietnam. This study utilized mixed methods approaches with three phases: the first stage employed a quantitative study to examine the Vietnamese teachers' perspectives on STEM education. The second phase was an experiment on teaching while applying STEM education to design and organize a mathematics lesson, and the final phase was to employ a qualitative study to explore the Vietnamese students' experiences of STEM education connected with real-world problem solving ...

NHI V I Ế T TRẦN
The aim of this study is to determine the status of preschool teachers toward applying digital technology (DT) in early childhood education (ECE) and the barriers they face. A quantitative online survey was conducted with 823 full-time preschool teachers in Vietnam's Central and Central Highlands. Results showed that teachers just often use smart TV and laptop computers among technical devices. Technical tools were mainly used to gather information and documents for lesson planning, compose lesson plans, communicate with parents, and present information to children. In addition, preschool educators faced many barriers in applying DT into their classrooms, such as lack of technology devices, lack of technical support or assistance, and lack of technical skills. The results also showed the difference between urban, rural, and mountainous areas in many aspects. The findings of this study may provide reliable information for educational management agencies and preschool teacher training institutions in making and implementing policies related to the application of DT in ECE and fostering technology application capacity for preschool teachers. Some suggestions for enhancing technology use in early childhood classrooms are proposed.
