Grand re-opening at Taff Furniture (2024)

GREENSBURG – Taff Furniture has a rich historical background that started in the mid-1800s. In 1868, Ed Schultz started The Schultz Company which was an undertaking business as well as a furniture store. Henry Oliger joined the business and became sole owner in the early 1930s. In the early 1940s, Mr. Oliger moved the undertaking portion of the operation to the brick building just east of the post office, which is now Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral home. The furniture business remained on the square and was eventually sold to Taff Furniture in 1969. Taff Furniture already had a store in Rushville that started in 1932, and the Greensburg store marked their second store opening. Over the years, Taff eventually expanded to Batesville in 1985, which enabled Taff to have three locations. In 2000, Don Blankman and Bruce Talbott bought into the business to co-own alongside Joe Taff. Over the years, markets changed and they decided to consolidate all locations into just the Greensburg store. Over a 24-year period, with a very successful business, Blankman, Talbott, and Taff opted to sell their stake in the company and passed the torch on to a local family.

So, in 2024 Taff Furniture was purchased by myself, Kyle Moeller and my wife, Taylor Moeller. We are both long-term residents of Decatur County, and we graduated from Greensburg Community High School. We have a little boy named Westin, and we are excited for him to grow up in the same community we know and love. Taylor and I would like to thank Joe Taff, Don Blankman, and Bruce Talbott for trusting us to carry on the legacy of their furniture store. They have done a tremendous job of building a business that catered to the community. We will do everything we can to provide Greensburg with the same amount of support that they have been known to love and expect.

After I graduated high school, I was hired on at Taff as a full-time delivery driver. I was also a full-time student at IUPUC. In 2018, I graduated with my degree in Business Management and Supply Chain Logistics and went on to pursue a different career opportunity. I was always so thankful for my time working at Taff, and I had this dream of maybe one day returning again, but as an owner. That dream eventually turned into a reality this spring. We would like to thank Taylor’s parents, Jeff and Barb Hatton, for their help in making this reality possible.

Over the years, Taff Furniture has carried many furniture brands, but our most well-known is La-Z-Boy. Taff is considered a Comfort Studio, which in turn means that we display the best styles and fabrics for our customers from La-Z-Boy. With being a Comfort Studio, customers can also custom order any product that La-Z-Boy offers so that our customers get the perfect match for their home. We also are well known for carrying Restonic mattresses. We have carried Restonic for 40 years to provide the community with a quality mattress brand that is well known throughout the United States. What sets Taff Furniture apart from other furniture stores is that we are well known by our quality and will only fill the store with items that we would feel comfortable putting in our own homes.
